I have an OpenSSH server running on Windows 2000, my router forwarding from port 8000 to the SSH server. When I am on my local LAN, I am able to connect to the SSH server (even on the external IP address, and external port), but when I try to
connect from a machine outside of my local LAN, it hangs. Here is sample output from it hanging:

Check the SSH server for correct networking configuration - does it have a route back to the Internet? Is the subnet mask correctly set?

Do other forwarded port work? Try running an HTTP server and forwarding port 80/8080 to it - does that work?

Failing that, try running tcpdump/ethereal on either/both of the client/server and see if that shows anything useful in the TCP connection setup.
