I'm a member of astalavista.net [amongst others of course], membership is cheap, there are some very useful online tools in the members area such as encrypt / decrypt tools and a good repository of whitepapers, exploits and proof of concepts. It is a bit of a script kiddie / newbie site but even for us seasoned testers I still find bits and pieces of use in there. Some of the wargames are quite challenging and entertaining too. The site has 18,000 members. However I wouldn't go anywhere near astalavista.COM ... Campbell www.encription.co.uk On 14/08/07, Peter Manis <manis@digital39.com> wrote:
Thanks DCI, Membership isn't expensive and from what I read on the site it doesn't look like a bad resource. There is also a DVD you can buy full of tutorials, exploits, tools and so on. As for the .com it is a warez zone and of course a black hat area! Note: the team behind .box.sk is different from the team that manages the .com and .net! Do not mix things up! Astalavista.com is the one with all the cracks/porn related stuff. Maybe I am wrong, past the opening page of astalavista.net it might be all warez. While searching for resources I came across Astalavista.net, which I have known about for years but never looked at it. Any security site can be a good resource, but does anyone have any experience with the quality of Astalavista's membership? Does it fall under black hat more than neutral?
