Yes, experience or the course. They, for obvious reasons, prefer the latter.
There is a form you need to fill out and fax to them. I had to follow up the
fax with an e-mail but eventually got the code I needed to take the test.

If memory serves, the stipulation is that you must either take the
course, or have two years of related experience in security work. If
you don't take the course, you must have a signed letter from your
supervisor on company letterhead stating that you have completed this
work, describe your daily tasks, etc.

I tried to take this exam, but after faxing in my paperwork, never
heard
back from the company and have had no luck contacting them; At least I
didn't pay for it! Some other forums I've read have stated their
reputation is sketchy at best.

I just completed the new Offensive Security course on Backtrack, and am
taking the exam Saturday. It is an excellent course that teaches you
not just about backtrack but lots of great penetration testing and
security auditing concepts. The final exam is you connected to a lab
via VPN and required to complete various tasks against the other
machines. I definitely like this hands on approach!

No, I am sure in Europe you MUST take the CEH course to sit for the CEH
exam (I have heard this from CEH instructors and have just searched and
found it at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Certified_Ethical_Hacker. This is NOT
true
of
the OPST or OPSA. In France you can sit for just the exam by
contacting

Dreamlab Technologies: www.dreamlab.net.

Sincerely,
-pete.

No,

This is true only of you want to become an instructor

I heard that you must go to an authorized training center before you
can be
allowed to attend the CEH cert exam. Is that true?

I am trying to pass that cert but I don't where to pass it here in
Paris -
can anyone help?

Thanks, Elad - am very interested in some training. I'll check out
the
links
you sent.

Do you or does anyone here in the list know if the Certified Ethical
Hacker
training provided by InfoSec Institute is good?

Michelle

Hello,

Some good courses and certifications:

http://www.see-security.com/ (Hacking Defined series).

http://www.foundstone.com/us/education-coursesdescription-ultimate-
hacki
ng.a

sp (Ultimate Hacking series).

http://www.offensive-security.com/ - Muts & Max (BackTrack)

I'm sure there some other good courses (hey! every company that does
pen
tests offers some training), but this is what I'm familiar with.

Your decision depends on how much money do you have to spend (or if
you have
financing), geographic location, instructors background and the
"hands
on"
amount.
