It's good not to have too much BS, as there is sometimes too much bs and not 
enough non-bs.

A few years ago ISC2 made certain requirements for individuals to have a 
minimum of education requirements, weather this is a good thing or a bad thing 
is up for debate. (just not with me)

Interesting that SANS would turn you down since Stephen Northcutt used to be a 
chef in the Navy before he became a network IDS guru.

The industry is changing to demand more specific education. For those who 
stepped behind the computer with seat of the pants ojt that could be 
disheartening.
