http://ubcd4win.com/ does offer a similar environment to Knoppix and others, but you have to build it yourself. They give you everything you need sans a valid Windows license and Windows install. I've used it before, it is very nice. You just need to stream a licensed Windows to the disk along with UBCD4Win. Directions are all there. What makes UBCD4Win unique is they have already been through Microsoft's legal department. The reason? Only the name, which was previously WinUBCD. Otherwise, they had a green light.
"UBCD4Win uses Bart's PE(C) to boot into a Windows(R) "pre-install" environment, basically Windows(C) booted from CD." (http://ubcd4win.com/) So, (1) UBCD4Win is not an alternative to BartPE, it's just an easy "starter kit" for BartPE -- this is not to dis UBCD4Win though, because it can be extremely useful not to have to customize everything yourself, and (2) if Microsoft tries to shutdown BartPE (which they are unlikely to do and have no legal basis to do...but they're a huge company with lots of lawyers, so they might get Bart to shut himself down), then UBCD4Win will also be in trouble. As a technical correction to what UBCD4Win page seems to be saying, depending BartPE does not actually offer a Windows Preinstallation Environment (like Microsoft's WinPE does), and therefore neither does UBCD4Win. This doesn't make a difference to the functionality, but it's worth mentioning for technical accuracy. (And legal accuracy, because if it did offer that then it *would* violate the Windows EULA and Microsoft's copyright.) -Eliah ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Audit your website security with Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner: Hackers are concentrating their efforts on attacking applications on your website.
