That's not running Knoppix from your hard drive. That's virtualizing a virtual machine and running Knoppix from the virtual machine's virtual CD drive. If your goal is a quick and easy GNU/Linux system, especially for security testing or technical support, that's a good way to do it. All your network traffic, though, will be going through the host system by being either routed or bridged, and if that host system is Windows, which you seem to be suggesting by your mention of Nero, Alcohol, and Microsoft Virtual PC, then that begs the question of why you don't just use your Windows system to do the testing. If, on the other hand, your goal is to run Knoppix from a hard disk as normally as possible, then that's a terrible and unnecessary kludge. You can just install Knoppix on a hard disk: http://www.freenet.org.nz/misc/knoppix-install.html -Eliah On 11/11/05, Ali Khalighi <ali.k@firstpc.ca> wrote:
Hello Bryan, Run Knopix , PHLAK or other bootable linux from Hard drive. I have experience with Phlak & Knopix. Knopix 4.2 is much more better than Phlak. There is no need for installation , both are bootable CDs, but I hate CDs. So I could run knopix & Phlak normally from my hard drive using following trick : 1) make a virtual CD drive (Using Nero , Alchohole or any other software) 2) make an image of Knopix or Phlak CD 3) Load the Image inside Virtual CD drive 4) Use VMWARE or MS Virtual Machine and make a linux machine 5) Boot the Virtual Linux from Virtual CD Drive. Enjoy ! It's too fast , no need for CD ROM , Better performance , always available. But Knopix is much more better than phlak.(from my point of view) -- Best regards, Ali Khalighi MCSE,CCNA,CPTP -- Best regards, Ali Khalighi Thursday, November 10, 2005, 12:50:51 PM, you wrote:What about Knoppix or PHLAK?
