I guess it is the same as the real client. There is no need for a options handshake (as is with for example a telnet connection) so a plain connect like netcat does is the same a client does.


And if you input the commands for example pop3 according to the specs in the rfc any normal client which is standards compliant will be simulated by your behaviour.
