Have you tried looking at CPU, Ram usage, Load etc etc... Is your
CPU flat out? RAM usage is nominal, CPU usage is about
50% on both processors. Right now running a scan I've got some
responsiveness but it will go away at some point. Is the IO
usage spiking at some point to cause an increase in the load ?

IO load seems to barely go up while a scan is running. This is from
observation of the drive lights, haven't run an iostat though.

The be_nice = yes change in my nessusd.conf file has made a HUGE change in
responsiveness. Still not anywhere near the FreeBSD setup but at least I
can run 30/20 hosts/checks and still have my system usable.

I'm glad the be_nice setting helped out.

I was also curious if the FreeBSD system took longer to scan than
your Linux system. It would be interesting to note if the FreeBSD
system was more responsive but also took longer to complete a scan.
