I took the plugins.xml file located in C:\Program Files\Tenable\Nessus\plugins from a known working installation, and copied it to the problematic install, and the scan appeared to work again at that point. Without changing any options, I simply select to scan the local host, with all plugins except dangerous enabled. I scan from the local host. I get the following popup: (I also tried scanning a remote host with same effect) title: scan Can not connect to the Nessus Server Possible causes Nessus Server service is not running Nessus Server service needs to be restarted Nessus plugins are corrupt or not up to date Remote Nessus Server not running or misconfigured Remote Nessus Server credentials are incorret 1: Verified -- it is running 2: Restarted -- still fails 3: Updated today... so... ? 4; Local, not remote 5: Local, not remote This is a registered feed. It sounds like Jason's issue is connectivity whether it be firewall or not having the proper ports open to connect to the scanner.
No, I'm connecting to localhost for the scan engine. New installs today were broken immediately. Install which worked fine yesterday broke after updating plugins today. Jason A.
