I am wondering if anyone has seen issues where Solaris 8 Inetd crashes when scanned by nessus, using any of the available port scan types.
We've seen this generally if max_checks is set to something high. Still, you may want to speak with Sun support as it sounds like there's a denial of service vulnerability somewhere.
Another question, how will disabling the port scan affect my results? I'm wondering if Nessus will just run slower, and still run all the checks.
It depends on how the scan is configured. I'd be concerned that you would miss services, especially those running on non-standard ports or that the scan would that take a long time.
