Very strange that worked fine. There isn't some limitation on the characters you can use in the ssh login that Nessus can't parse by any chance?

Then just omit the '-i' argument in the example I gave before; eg,
ssh -2 nessus@192.1.1.44 id
You'll probably need to tweak the account and host for your environment.
