Hm, you're right. There also exists a plugin to identify a vmware-server.

vmware_detect.nasl relies primarly on the MAC adress, but the list seems not to be complete for not discovering my VMware :)
vmware_server_detect.nasl checks the banner of the VMware remote-console but also failed to identify my server. Hopefully I got time to write a fix during my holidays.

Nessus identifies if the remote host is running under VMWare with vmware_detect.nasl. All the rest (OS/Applications) is done by standard Nessus plugins.
