Re: Nesus 3 - Can Not connect to Nessus server

Ive installed Nessus on my machine and was able to run 2 scans but
frequently getting the Can not connect to Nessus server error message.

Can you verify that's the error message you get? I don't find that exact
text either in the CLI client or NessusClient. Also, which version and
which client are you using?

The default 127.0.0.1 is set up on the server and Im connecting
locally. The service is running and Ive turned off my firewall, ran
updates, and tried a few other things but this error keeps coming up and
has been constant since yesterday. Any ideas?

Has you successfully connected in the past? What do you see in the
nessusd.messages log? Does netstat or lsof show nessusd listening on the
interface and port you're trying to connect to?

I'm not the original poster, but I'm seeing the same problem with the Windows
version. From the log files, and the time it takes before I get the error,
it appears that the scans complete before the message comes up. I haven't
been using Nessus for vary long. It may have been failing occassionally from
the start, but its definitely gotten worse recently. The program hasn't been
updated since I started using it, but the plugins have been (several times).
My scan machine runs Win/2K and I have not done anything to the default
Nessus configuration other than defining policies to pick plugins and enter
credentials.

I'll do the netstat test Tuesday (Monday is a holiday). Restarting the
service and rebooting didn't help.
