Here is the error I get:

It's actually more of a warning than an error -- you should still get an XML output file. If you want to avoid the message, specify the config file used for the scan; eg,

  theall@garlic:/tmp>nessus -v
  nessus (Nessus) 2.2.8 for Linux

  (C) 1998 - 2006 Tenable Network Security, Inc.
SSL used for client - server communication

  theall@garlic:/tmp>nessus -c ~/myrc -i results.nbe -o results.xml
  theall@garlic:/tmp>l results.*
  -rw-r--r-- 1 theall users 8458 Sep 2 21:22 results.nbe
  -rw-r--r-- 1 theall users 27527 Sep 2 21:25 results.xml
  theall@garlic:/tmp>
