Hi.
I'm a newbies with nessus and I try to find in mail list to find the
way to scan server that behind firewall. I found each of them relate to
what I want to know but it still don't clear for me.

Please tell me step by step how to config both firewall and nessus
to scan for missing patch and vulnerability.
Each port nessus use to scan through network?

My os is windowsXP SP2 and I use nessus 3.0.3.

Sorry I'm not good in english.

Thank you

Dear Kiatkachorn,

You have two options, place a nessus scanner behind the firewall
close to the server you want to scan or configure the firewall to
allow the scan to come through.

If you are using Windows, then you might not be used to running
Nessus on a separate server. In that case, ask your firewall
administrator to allow your IP through the firewall. If the firewall
is a NAT device, you have to either forward all scans to one target
IP or you must physically install the scanner behind the firewall.

For configuring Nessus to perform a scan, please refer to the
documentation on nessus.org for credentialed scanning.
