Nessus for Mac OS X is not just a port of the Unix server to the Mac
environment, it also bundles a native interface to manage the server
and the client.

At long last! I have tested this beta release today using an
Intel-based MacBook Pro running OS X 10.4.5 against several of my
servers and routers, and have been very pleased with the results. I
like the fact that your first release is a Universal Binary, but much
more than that I like having the OS X-specific client for Nessus 3.
That will make a big difference for adoption on Apple OS X servers and
desktops. Having a native client for OS X makes things much easier and
provides a more consistent look and feel. Plus we no longer have to
use X11.

With Nessus 2.x I never had any issues compiling the daemon, but had
nothing but problems with /all/ versions of the free NessusClient. In
fact I never, ever got it to work and always used the old 'nessus'
client instead. This was on both PowerPC and Intel systems, despite
many hours of trying to use workarounds for known issues or changing
dependencies that were causing a 'broken pipe' in various versions of
Nessus.

Welcome to Version 3. Everything works. :) It is much better, and I've
immediately noticed the speed increase. I've been waiting for the OS X
release for quite some time. This is commercial-quality software
that's still free for non-commercial use, so I applaud Renaud and the
other fine folks at Tenable, as this is a great effort and release for
the community.

One small suggestion: the Nessus Server Manager window never goes
away. If you provide the server status instead as a plug-in to Apple
System Preferences instead (similar to the binary release of the MySQL
server - a good model), the daemon can be more easily stopped/started
and configured for boot inside the standard Apple preferences area.
Something to think about for a future release.

Best regards,

Kelly Martin
