Extreme Networks XOS 11.2 and Safe Checks

Subject: Extreme Networks XOS 11.2 and Safe Checks
Date: Mon, 27 Feb 2006 09:32:23 -0600
Doing an audit on a network with an Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 8810 (or Aspen 8810) running 11.2.2.3 and the SSH module installed I found that safe checks cause the CPU to go 100% and stay there on the switch until a reboot. The thttpd (encryption) processes are the problem. I did not have time to figure out what plugin was causing this but it was repeatable. Extreme Networks said there is a bug in the 11.2 code and recommended an upgrade to 11.3.3.7 which did fix the the 100% cpu load problem but introduced SSH vulnerability. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that if your scanning a network with that switch safe checks are not safe and how to fix the problem.
