I am trying to install
2.2.6. I do not want to use the linux gui, so I configured nessus-core

That should work -- it's what I use on one of my systems. Does
config.status show that option was in your configure command?

Try "make distclean && configure --disable-gtk && make" from within
nessus-core. If that gives you the same errors, send me privately a
screen capture of running those commands and I'll try to see what's
going on.
