Hello

I'm having several problems with getting Nessus 3.01 up and running
on Debian (kernel 2.6.14, most recent packages in unstable tree).

The .deb installs fine to the /opt dir and I ran nessus-add-first-user
and nessus-mkcert without problems.

1.) The first problem arises when I try to enter my registration key
with /opt/nessus/bin/nessus-fetch --register <Mycode>
leads to "An unexpected error occured (code=2002)"
The code used for registration is freshly generated and has not been used
before.
Please note that I'm directly connected to the internet, without any proxy
during
this process.

When I try manual registration it seems to work as I get the rc-file I'm
saving to
/opt/nessus/etc/nessus/nessus-fetch.rc.
To test if it works I'm running /opt/nessus/sbin/nessus-update-plugins
which aborts with
"Invalid response file
Could not retrieve the plugins MD5
Aborting"

2.) I've tried to do scans with the plugins coming with the Nessus package
itself. I'm using
the new NessusClient (which works very well with another 2.2.5 Nessusd on
another machine) to
connect to my 3.01 daemon. I define my settings for the scan including
targets and here's the
strange thing: Scanning localhost (127.0.0.1) works out fine. When I try
to scan any other IP
after clicking "Execute" the Scan Window Pops up for a second and vanishes
again. No Report Data
is generated. The logfile nessusd.dump contains the message
"iface_get_mask(eth0) failed."

ifconfig eth0 reads
"eth0 Protokoll:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 00:0B:5D:93:D7:D1
          inet Adresse:192.168.2.1 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Maske:255.255.255.0
          inet6 Adresse: fe80::20b:5dff:fe93:d7d1/64
Gültigkeitsbereich:Verbindung
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:1163 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1212 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          Kollisionen:0 Sendewarteschlangenlänge:1000
          RX bytes:701347 (684.9 KiB) TX bytes:180012 (175.7 KiB)
          Interrupt:177"

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Best regards
Brandy
