This has always been the case -- http://www.nessus.org/register/ has always redirected to that page (or which links are you talking about?). Just enter your email address over there and you will receive an activation code by email.


Once you obtain this activation code, just type :

        nessus-fetch --register <code>

and your Nessus 2.2 scanner will be registered (as 'nessus-fetch -- check' will tell you).


Is it still possible to register a new 2.2 scanner, or is it really planned to phase out 2.2 _that_ fast?

We do not intend to phase out 2.2.x at all. Actually, 2.2.7 will be released in early january and will contain numerous fixes for bugs which have been spotted during the Nessus 3.0 developement cycle.
