Running nessus by hand

New to nessus!

I am trying to learn NESSUS and I am somewhat confused by what I am
reading. If I am trying to run in command-line mode (CLM) is the user
name and password the username and password for the system I am trying
to scan or the server that NESSUS sits on?

Does any of that make sense?

Thank you very much!
