configure: error: Could not find OpenSSL and OpenSSL headers on your system

I'm running Mandrake 10.2 and get the message "Could not find OpenSSL
and OpenSSL headers on your system" when I try and run the ./configure
for the nessu-libraries. I have installed openssl-0.9.7e-5mdk.src.rpm
and it's dependent libraries.
When I perform an rpm -qa | grep openssl I get

libopenssl0.9.7-0.9.7e-5.1.102mdk
openssl-0.97e-5.1.102mdk

There were no apparent errors when it installed. What do I have to do
to get the openssl recognized so I can proceed with nessus install?


I've tried the installer script and it reports:

gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-configsearch path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing 'gtk+-2.0.pc to the
PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtk+-2.0' found 
The command 'gtk-config' was not found in your $PATH
The nessus client will be built without its GUI
Press enter to continue.

rpm -qa | grep gtk returns:

gtk+2.0-2.6.4-2 mdk 
libgtk+2.0_0-2.6.4
and others.......

So I assume it is installed but only the $PATH is absent...
