I don't have one either at this point, but the daemon
shutdown may be unrelated to the nessus-update-plugins
problem. Look through your nessusd.messages to find a
possible explanation for the former problem.

One other quick question: I currently do not have nessusd
automatically starting at system boot. I was planning on
adding a line to the rc.local file in order to accomplish
this. Do you foresee any problems by my doing so? Thanks. 

Given that you're running scans automatically via cron, I
think that would be a good idea. You may also want to set up
some type of monitoring to alert you should the daemon shut
down unexpectedly.
