SIGSEGV in ssh_detect.nasl on debian woody

Hello,

        nessusd running on Debian (woody),
        getting SIGSEGV on ssh_detect.nasl on certain firewalled hosts.

woody:~$ /usr/local/nessus/sbin/nessusd -d
This is Nessus 2.2.4 for Linux 2.4.28-smp
compiled with gcc version 2.95.4 20011002 (Debian prerelease)
Current setup :
        nasl                           : 2.2.4
        libnessus                      : 2.2.4
        SSL support                    : enabled
        SSL is used for client / server communication
        Running as euid                : 1001

        I've verified that the problem only exists on this config.
        ssh_detect.nasl does not SIGSEGV on other flavors of gcc/linux.
        (works on FC2/gcc version 3.3.3 20040412 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7)

        Anybody else on woody run into this?
        Or have advice on how to upgrade gcc safely?
