nessus server clusters ?

Subject: nessus server clusters ?

Hi everybody,

So i've been working on an application for while in my spare time that lets you cluster/load balance nessus servers and writes the results to a DB (or optionally just to a file in nbe format. Is there any other GPL'ed software that already does this ? Do you guys think it would be at all useful (it will be GPL'd, so free) ? Is there any feature that would be a must have ?

Features so far:

Master/client style setup..the master console/db tracks the jobs and delegates the work load based on scan priority and system ratings (i.e depending on what hosts the scan systems have access to as well as how much of a work load they can handle/bandwidth they can push). The client just launches the scans by using a nessus-client batch process, and reports back the scan result as well system statistics (highest system load during scan, scan time, etc).

Master uses 3DES encryption to talk to the nessus cluster client (as well as key based auth for the initial connection).

Master stores scan results in a DB (MySQL, MS-SQL, etc) or locally in nbe format.

Features in progress or would that would be added before a release:

Basic gui console to start scan, view inprogress scans, view scan results and cluster statistics, and compare scan results over time.
Ability to customize and push out .nessusrc files to the clients or selected clients.

Just checking to see if theres even a need for this before i go further.

Florian
