Re: questions regarding new plugin policy

I was going off Renaud's posting in 2001 where he
stated
all plugins are GPL. Without informing anyone of
the
change of license until Dec. 7th, it appears
everything before that date should be GPL? Am I
wrong
on this point?

You are wrong. There have been plugins released
under another license
(os_fingerprint.nasl to name one). The plugins (C)
Tenable have
not been released under the GPL.

But the following messages (which I think you've
written) really seem to say _all_ the NASL source code
is GPL?

From what I've read and discussed so far, I've decided
to stick Nessus and its plugins under the GPL and to
publish a "good behavior in Nessusland" guide,
explaining how a company can constructively help the
project and what hurts it.

"While the plugins _source code_ falls under the GPL,
the plugin description falls under traditional
copyright law (as text can not be put under the GPL).
By claiming ownership of each description, you are
violating thecopyright of every user who submitted
Nessus plugins and took the timeto write a description
for every security check. In order to protect the
rights of the Nessus community, I ask you
toimmediately remove all the text coming from the
Nessus plugins from all the sussen archives."
