I'm sorry, I should have asked you also to use a non-existent 
IP address for the target; ie, one on your network but not 
currently assigned. 

Don't bother, though; I think this is a serious bug.  I just 
tried this myself and observed nessusd hammering my 
nameserver - 66000+ queries in a bit over 1 minute!!! Do you 
want to open up a bug report in Bugzilla or should I?


I can if you like.  But I think you may be able to explain the issue
much better than I.  Just let me know if you'd like me to do it.
