hi folks,

i've installed nessus-2.0.10a using YAST on a SuSE 9.1 box:

vishnu:/usr/sbin # ./nessusd -v
nessusd (Nessus) 2.0.10 for Linux
(C) 1998 - 2003 Renaud Deraison <deraison@nessus.org>

vishnu:/usr/sbin #

when i try to load nessusd, i see the following:

vishnu:/etc/init.d # ./nessusd start
Starting nessusd done
vishnu:/etc/init.d # smb_nt.inc: Too many open files
/usr/lib/nessus/plugins/mssqlserver_detect.nasl: Too many open files
/usr/lib/nessus/plugins/mssqlserver_detect.nasl could not be loaded
/usr/lib/nessus/plugins/CSCdw50657.nasl: Too many open files
/usr/lib/nessus/plugins/CSCdw50657.nasl could not be loaded
/usr/lib/nessus/plugins/php_imap_overflow.nasl: Too many open files
/usr/lib/nessus/plugins/php_imap_overflow.nasl could not be loaded
[...]

this continues for what looks to me like every plug-in ... and of course,
nessusd doesn't load.

i started off thinking this was a kernel issue ... but:
vishnu:/proc/sys/fs # cat file-nr
1440 0 419430
vishnu:/proc/sys/fs #

file-nr suggests that i haven't gotten close to the maximum of 419430 file
handles, so now i'm thinking it is a nessus issue.

insights?
