I would recommend installing from the source.... RPMS can be a PIA most of the time!! I run nessus fine from any RH if I compile it from source. Same with NMAP as well as any other "tool" I may use for any security testing. I think that Renaud and Crew have made the installer somewhat "dummyproof" as well, it even has an uninstall script included. It is so smart it tells you if you need certian packages. Dont get me wrong RPM's are great if you have to follow dependencies but from what I have found if you have the disk space and you are a newb you should just install everything on Fedora, then up2date until you are running most recent kernel, deactivate uneeded services and then install any "tool": you may need from its source...... Hope that helps!!

I have successfully installed Nessus on RH8 - Fedora is giving me fits. Attemts to install rpms associated with the message below tell me that the rpms are already installed. I'm a Linux novice, where do I begin to unravel this?

Thanks,

[rj@localhost rj]$ lynx -source http://install.nessus.org | sh Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gtk+-2.0' found The command 'gtk-config' was not found in your $PATH.
