I have been running Nessus 2.0.6 with Nmap 3.28 and a recently updated
set of plug-ins (I will be upgrading everything again soon). Reports I
have from Nessus offer two shots at the operating system version for
each host (see sample below). I used to find the "Remote OS guess :..."
information more reliable but perhaps the "The remote host is
running..." information is now better. This is certainly the case now
for systems running Mac OS X.
i) Does "Remote OS guess :..." come from the nmap_osfingerprint.nes
pluggin?
ii) If so how does it relate to Nmap and why is it there?
iii) Does the data for the "The remote host is running..." line come
from Nmap.
iv) Will this discrepancy be removed when I upgrade or am I doing
something wrong?
. Information found on port general/tcp
The remote host is running Mac OS X 10.3.4
