Keeping up with new tools and information

I've seen a few messages on NTBUGTRAQ that pertain to locating tools
from Microsoft.  The way to know what is out there (and where) is to
subscribe to the notification newsletters.

If you want to be kept up-to-date on what is new and available at
Microsoft you can subscribe to the Microsoft Security Newsletter and
Microsoft Download Notifications newsletters.  You can get more
information and subscribe to the lists at the link below.

Microsoft announced both AntiSpyware and MSRT on these lists.  More
currently, a tool was announced that allows users to drop administrative
rights for specific applications:

Most viruses these days use spoofed email addresses. As such, using an 
Anti-Virus product which automatically notifies the perceived sender of a 
message it believes is infected may well cause more harm than good. Someone who 
did not actually send you a virus may receive the notification and scramble 
their support staff to find an infection which never existed in the first 
place. Suggest such notifications be disabled by whomever is responsible for 
your AV, or at least that the idea is considered.
