Problems with MS04-032

Subject: Problems with MS04-032
Date: Thu, 28 Oct 2004 07:05:49 -0400
I have had several different reports of problems with MS04-032. There
definitely is a problem with that patch when applied to systems which
are running the Intel Ultra ATA IDE (thanks Stuart Hersh) driver. Intel
have replaced that driver with the Intel Application Accelerator, but
Intel also state that the driver is not absolutely required.

If there is any commonality amongst the other reports, its that there
appears to be issues with older kernel-mode drivers and the patch. The
reports vary from outright BSODs, to memory errors, to applications not
functioning. With the exception of the Ultra ATA IDE driver, there are
insufficient other reports to state drivers with certainty.

If you encounter a boot problem, boot into Safe Mode and then use
Add/Remove programs to remove MS04-032. Reboot and upgrade your
driver(s). Andrew Cohen pointed out that MBSA states that if MS04-032 is
removed and re-applied, then MS04-031 has to also be re-installed.

Cheers,
