Well, at long last (supposed to be Aug 25, wasn't it?) I have been informed that
"Automatic Updates" has a new update for me. Choosing "Custom Install" allows
you to actually know what Microsoft is about to impose on your machine, and it's
identified as SP2. 75 meg, the online mini-version. Apparently this is how
long it
takes to get it over a dialup line, even if you leave your computer on (and
connected) for weeks on end. (I was rather expecting it: earlier today I
noticed
some network activity that wasn't tied to any particular process, and that
seemed
to scuttle out of the way every time I tried to connect to something online.)
I'm currently searching the disk to find where any file larger than 15 meg has
been
altered/created in the past week. (So far without success.) Any advice on
where to
look? I'd like to have a copy for archival purposes, and I'd also like to be
able to
move it to the laptop without having to leave *it* online for a couple of
months.
