| Subject: | Office update -- did it work |

I tried to run the Office 2000 update at home (can't afford to keep up
with Microsoft Office products on a personal basis) and was prompted for
the Office Service Pack 1 update, which baulked at a file that it
claimed was already updated -- 'ignore' let it continue. Then Service
pack 3 needed to be applied, the installer 'failed', event log showed
that the same mysterious file was to blame, but there was not option to
ignore the error and continue. Office Update problem resolution web
page suggestions were to run the 'full file update', which I did, but
that failed as well. This was all SP3 stuff, and not the actual GDI fix
(which requires Office SP3). I gave up after an hour of trying, and
I'll try again tonight.
I didn't even get to the stage where I -could- apply the GDI patches to
office.
