Windowx XP - Server Side Profiles and Nvidia Display Driver

Subject: Windowx XP - Server Side Profiles and Nvidia Display Driver
Date: Wed, 25 Aug 2004 11:27:52 +0200
Read this if you have an Windows Environment with Server Side Profiles
and Nvidia Display Drivers at some Desktops.

Problem:
We found out, that if you have NVIDIA Display Drivers installed which
are offered arround MAY 2004 and later
and you are yousing SSProfiles following error can occur:
When an user is logging of a machine running Windows XP or Windows 2000
the user profile is not written back
to the wanted destination at the server.
If you install the new NVIDIA Driver from the NVIDIA Homepage the same
problem exists.

Solution:
Be sure, that the "NVIDIA Update" Service is not running. This (or more,
we don't know) Parts of the NVIDIA Driver
keeps the 2 Windows Files ntuser.dat, usrclass.dat opened util full
shutdown.
Because this files are opened and the system cannot cpopy openend files,
the copy procedure of the user profile fails.
We have found 3 Solutions to solve this problem:
1. Use the Windows Integrated Device Drivers
2. Use the Driver shipped with the System (ours are Fujitsu-Siemens),
because there was no Update Part Included.
We don't know if these solution works on other Systems.
3. Try to isolate the Nvidia Update Service

We told this problem to Nvidia but with no response.
