Problems with install, with workarounds. I created a slipstream CD, and did an in-place upgrade from XP SP1 to XP+SP2. (By in-place upgrade, I mean booting into XP, inserting the CD, and selecting "Upgrade".) During GUI mode setup, the process stopped asking me for the file ialmnt5.sys, in directory C:\wutemp\pubname.5804314, but the keyboard and mouse were locked. (It's a "legacy-free" PC, so maybe the USB KB/Mouse just got clobbered during detection.) Fortunately, I had the drivers on the disk and the Recovery Console installed. Unfortunately, the Recovery Console will only copy one file at a time (no wildcards) and there were 137 files, so I resorted to using a commercial recovery tool to copy all of them to that directory. FYI, the driver in question was the Intel I845G video driver version 13.6. After copying the files, setup completed successfully, although it did ask for the driver location again after first logon, and it defaulted to 800x600. I decided to install the newer 14.5 driver in case this is a problem someone else already knew about. Interesting note: I did *not* get the "Do you want to set up your firewall" wizard, it just turned it on for me. Presumably, if you upgrade from NT/2k/9x to XP+SP2, it'll do the same. The SMS 2003 admin console didn't work, even with the firewall disabled. You need to "allow anonymous remote access in DCOM", detailed at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sms/sms2003/techfaq/tfaq03.mspx. Silly me, I was looking in the knowledge base... All other apps I've tried so far work as expected. ----- NTBugtraq Editor's Note: Want to reply to the person who sent this message?
