My experience has been that many companies simply do not care about security until they are forced to.
opinion
The problem with companies is that they are pubicly traded. This means that if total profits for your company are 1,000,000,000 each year, and you maintain a profit margin of 1,000,000,000 per year, you are floundering.
I feel that if a company makes one billion per year, that is pretty fucking good. I dont care if you make 900,000,000 the next year, and 950,000,000 the year after that. The fact that you are bringing almost 1 bil per year in profits is pretty sweet IMO.
With a pubicly traded company, making less one year then you did the year before is a sign of attrition. SELL THE SHARES AND RUN!!!! Even if you are only pulling .95 bil.
