Norton/Symantec Ghost PowerQuest Drive Image(I think Norton gobbled this one up) Or for the truly crafty vmWare.
My preference for quick imaging is Acronis True Image Server. It images disks or partitions and compreses the image by up to 70% and is fast. You are right about vmWare. It is THE most usefull tool for lab work I've found. When you are through trashing a virtual OS, just delete it and copy over the original folder that you initially backed up and you're good to go again. With a dual Opteron and 8gb RAM and SuSE 9.1 as a base secure OS, our new lab will easily support a virtual 240 subnet. As soon as as their 4.5.2 version comes out supporting 64-bit SuSE that is.
