Trend Micro is just beginning to offer that functionality, actually later on this month. The efforts that they have now are weak but building strength. Sophos has always gone after the worst of the spyware, I remember getting Gator alerts in 1996 from Sophos. Sophos is also moving heavily into the antispyware arena, and so far its built into the product. The same technology is used so it makes a lot of sense to me that AV vendors should incorporate it. Most AV vendors are working on either a separate product line or incorporating spyware signatures into their current products. I would beware of MS Antispyware. Although Giant was one of the very best out there at one time, they have been eaten by a major company. Look at the great little products that have been eaten by the conglomerates and basically destroyed. Not just MS, but also CA, Network Associates, Symantec, etc. "Used to be good, but until so and so bought them." Can you get automated updates on MS Beta without using Automatic Updates and having to take every broken patch that comes down the pipe? -B- -----Original Message----- From: Jason Prespolis [mailto:jprespol@neri.org] Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2005 1:33 PM To: Dave; focus-virus@securityfocus.com Subject: RE: AV that supoprts spy/adware I believe Trend Micro is starting to offer that in one of it's product line. http://www.trendmicro.com -----Original Message----- From: Dave [mailto:wintermutecx@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2005 1:00 PM To: focus-virus@securityfocus.com Subject: AV that supoprts spy/adware Anyone have a list of AV that detects spyware? We are currently using eTrust with spybot and the MS beta antispyware. I'd like to get something that's integrated. Thanks.
