None of these servers have APC software. The machine has not restarted yet, so it would be impossible to hang at applying computer settings. Term Services is not possible because RDC gives the generic Term Services is unavailable message. Trevor, Do you have APC PowerChute 6.x software on those servers? If so, that may be your problem. I had a similar puzzling issue on a Win2K3 SBS that turned out to be due to PowerChute. Version 6.x includes a Java Runtime Environment certificate that expired. The effect is that the PowerChute services hang trying to log on, which has the further effect of very slow Administrator login via console or TS. Since the software can't log on, the server also does not shut down gracefully in the event of a power failure. Even though the cert expired in late July, the problem doesn't manifest until the next subsequent reboot, which could've been right when you applied those patches. The solution is to upgrade to version 7.x of PowerChute. Hope it helps. Regards, Glenn Pearl

I'm having multiple servers having issues restarting after installing the latest patches for Win2K3 (SP1 or RTM). The server will still respond to ping, SMB/CIFS, Exchange, SQL, but not terminal services. I can issue them a shutdown -r -f -m \\servername and they will restart at that point. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? This isn't with all servers,
but I've had a couple doing this. -Trevor -------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- -------------------------------------------------------------- -------------
