OpenManage is in the 8.x release. Update your OpenManage, since this
issue only exists with releases back in the 4.x range.

Removing Open manage MAY help, but in many cases, open manage, the drive
array controllers, and the drives are all tied to eachother with Dell
servers.

Specifically, you might find that its not just the open manage
interface, but also the drivers for SCSI controllers, etc etc that is
part of the open manage suite that is causing the problem.

Now - this is just idle speculation, but I am not going to be taking a
chance with any dell servers that I have that I cannot lab test ahead of
time.

Dennis.

I would recheck with your Dell Rep. I was running Open Manage version
4.3. Dell has an article which states that only version 4.4 will be
compatible with SP1 and it's not due until mid may.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/osws2k3s/en/ts/ws03sp1faq
.pdf?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

The error message I received was a stop:0x0000051 corrupted registry.

I have an open case on this with Microsoft and they tell me that they
and Dell are well aware of the problem.

If you experience this problem on anything other than a PowerEdge server
configured as a domain controller you should contact Microsoft
immediately. The support call is free.

Please note that Microsoft can get your server up and running quite
quickly so you will not lose data if this is your production box,
however, in my case the HKLM registry hive had funky permission after
installing the service pack which would be difficult to repair if you
wanted to keep the box. This is why we test.

Removing open manage before applying the SP might resolve the issue but
I have not tested this yet.

The infromation I received from my Dell rep is as long as you are
running Open Mange version 4.3, you should not have any problems. I
also assume if you are not running Dell Open Mange you should not have a
problem.

Do you know what version of Open Mange was running on the problem
machine? Anyone want to test this on a domain controller?

Please be advised that Microsoft has a problem with SP1 for windows 2003
server and Dell Poweredge servers that are configured as domain
controllers. Installing SP will (likely) blue screen your server with a
corrupted registry. The source of the problem is still unknown but is
suspected to be related to an incompatability with the DELL Open Manage
software.
