The main reason for me would be that the xp firewall is inbound only, and will not prevent any program from accessing the outside network.
Also it is rule-based and not behavior based (won't block port scanning & such). Thirdly it won't inspect the content of the connection.


If you are looking for reasons to purchase look at ZoneAlarm features and almost all of them aren't present in Windows XP's firewall.
