I am considering replacing our PIX / VPN pairs with four Cisco ASA 5540's
or leave our VPN 3030's and purchase four PIX 535's.

We also have PIX + vpn3000 solution.

Does anyone have any real world experience with the ASA line and what are
your thoughts on them?

I didn't upgraded to ASA because of this note :

<<*Note:* The WebVPN features in this software release are currently
provided as a free trial, and future major software releases will require
the purchase and installation of a WebVPN feature license to use these and
future WebVPN features.>>

We do SSL/webVPN through the vpn3000's, and Cisco doesn't know (yet) how
much this licence will cost.
