I have taken a 440 drive (years ago) and placed it in a linux box, and with 'dd' successfully imaged the machine, and restored it to another hard drive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Paris E. I though I read posts that said drive partitioning or other issues caused problems when imaging.
