I went through this exercise earlier this year for users who may be out of the office for a few days to users who would not be connecting for months. What I went with for almost the same criteria you specified was Trend's Internet Security Suite. It does not interact with Sophos, however, it does come with Trend's PC-Cillin, the only product out there that I would consider equivalent to Sophos in detection and cleanup capabilities. It was very well behaved with for the regular user and had lockdown capabilities. So far I have received no complaints at all from the field users. I received many concerning the personal firewall that was originally on their laptops. It does confuse things when I look at the Sophos console and see all these machines without AV protection. I know they are covered by Trend so I can still sleep most nights. Well, I'm not worrying about these lost sheep anyhow. -B- -----Original Message----- From: linux starved [mailto:linuxstarved@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, July 25, 2005 1:46 PM To: firewalls@securityfocus.com Subject: Personal Firewalls I have been testing personal firewall's for use with our users that have laptops, to protect them (and my network)when they are away from our virus scanners. I have tried Black Ice, Norton, Tiny, Zone Alarm and McAfee. The two with the most potential for our needs (in my opinion) were ZA and Tiny. The research conducted however, merely scratched the surface, and I was hoping for feedback from somone familiar with these two products. We need something that is compatible with Sophos AV (ZA actually had a beta that I tested), also we are looking for something that does not interrupt the user and can only be configured by an admin. The less interaction our users have with the application the happier we will be. The following are the most important features: -Runs quietly in background, once it is pre-configured by admin -Thorough detection of all processes, and requested inbound/outbound connections -Changes can be made only by an administrator -Compatibility with Sophos Thank you in advance, all help and advice is greatly appreciated.
