I would love to see how they accomplished that, because I have tried,
and failed.
VMWare presents an AMD NIC to the OS, and PIX doesn't support AMD NICs.

Negative you can use VMware to create virtual firewall, many of my
customers in the Health Services field use VMware for HIPPA reasons---
to control access to database servers, and it is a PIX version 6.3.
Haven't see it done on the new 7.0 which are nice

As far as I know, the PIX IOS is completely proprietary and you will
not be able to download it. That and I doubt that vmware has an
emmulation for Cisco IOS. Sorry.

I am making a document "Test Protocol Firewalls" where shown the
results of tests of commercial Firewalls like :CheckPoint and Cisco
PIX :
- Firewall -1 R55+ HF 13 running SecurePlatform.
- Cisco Pix IOS 6.3 o 7.0
My network environment is :
- External ( Attack Server)
- DMZ ( Webserver vulnerable without last patch of
apache.......Honeypot)
- Internal (Here It will be syslog Server)
-For CheckPoint I just have installed the Firewall Module and Smart
Center in two different virtual machines running in vmware workstation
5.0.0
build-13124 and
the SmartDasboard running in the Host Windows 2000. All is working
very well ...is fantastic the vmware.
-For Cisco PIX I really have problems because I have not PIX, so my
question is if Anybody know if I can download the PIX IOS 6.3 o 7.0
and then create new virtual machine and execute my "Test Protocol
Firewalls" .
I will appreciate your coments and when I finished my tests I will be
sharing my resuls with you.
