There is a know bug in Checkpoint FP3 where is does not understand certain licenses. There is a patch on the Checkpoint Web site to fix this. -----Original Message----- From: Rodrigo Blanco [mailto:rodrigo.blanco.r@gmail.com] Sent: 19 April 2005 08:22 To: Serg Belokamen Cc: firewalls@securityfocus.com Subject: Re: Problem connecting to CheckPoint using SmartDashboard I would check: - Can you ping the client IP from the firewall? - Have you defined the client IP as management client? - Have you installed the licenses (or are you still within the first 15-day trial period)? - In some appliance platforms (Alteon Switched Firewall, for instance), there is a management IP and a physical IP. If that is your case, you should make sure you connect to the mngmt IP. Hope this helps you. Regards, Rodrigo. On 4/17/05, Serg Belokamen <sergb@tpg.com.au> wrote:
Hi All, I've installed a CheckPoint client (Smart Dashboard, if i recall correctly) on my machine and tried connecting to the firewall. Consistently I get an error (below). A collegue then tried to connect via their machine by installing the client, only to get the same error (below). ****************** ERROR START HERE ****************** Connection can not be initiated. Make sure that the Server 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' is up and running. ****************** ERROR END HERE ****************** However when trying to use the same client from a different machine, which was the original machine (original IP) used to administer the firewall it would connect fine. I have found an article on client replication so more then one
operator
can administer the firewall, however it involved additional configuration on the firewall box, which sounded a bit strange to me,
so
I decided to ask here before I screw something up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Serg
