I concur. Blackice is fine and if the deployment is into an enterprise environment it scales well with central management features that accommodate roaming users. But we vend BlackIce so I'm biased. Sygate makes a nice product; inexpensive. As I remember it integrates host based integrity checking, too. (No bias; not in our portfolio) Fortinet has a host based firewall that also serves as VPN client and AV protection. I've used it; my only complaint about it is that it can't really be uninstalled. (Note bias ... we vend Fortinet.) E-Eye has a product out; I haven't worked with it so I know neither it's capabilities nor use. It is well reviewed. I have every intention to check it our as I believe it will likely be quite nice. (Note bias ... we vend E-Eye.) ____________________________________________ Robert Synak, CISSP, CCNA, SCSA, MCSE Security Engineer ANITIAN ENTERPRISE SECURITY 3800 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Suite 298 Beaverton, OR 97005 503-644-5656 Office 503-807-4429 Cell 503-214-8069 Fax www.anitian.com <http://www.anitian.com> ____________________________________________ ________________________________ From: Roger Sinel [mailto:Roger.Sinel@nyckelviken.se] Sent: Monday, March 21, 2005 12:07 AM To: NetEng; firewalls@securityfocus.com Subject: SV: Firewall and IDS Solution Blackice ________________________________ Från: NetEng [mailto:NetEng@EliteMail.Org] Skickat: den 19 mars 2005 23:43 Till: firewalls@securityfocus.com Ämne: Firewall and IDS Solution Does anyone know of a decent host based IDS solution for my WinXP workstation? I'd prefer having a software package that installs Win32 otherwise, I'd setup Snort on another machine.
