Why is it that when someone asks a question about a firewall that people jump in and tell them to change their application? Do you really believe that using a different web server will negate the need for a firewall? Every server OS has vulnerabilities that need to be protected, as well as the other machines on the network. Having completed my rant... I like hardware firewalls (asic based) because they are generally more secure than software-based firewalls - any software-based firewall may inherit vulnerabilities from the host OS. I personally like the Cisco PIX firewalls. In our environment they have proven to be rock-solid, easy to setup and maintain, and very secure, although some others offer more features - especially if you are looking for content inspection or intrusion detection/prevention. There are a number of extremely good firewalls available, but I don't know if you could call any one "the most secure". The decision will probably come down to which one gives you the feature set that you want and is easy enough for you to set up and maintain. I guess the best advice I could give is to think long and hard about what features you really want and need then take a look at the management interfaces before you make a decision. Don't forget about things like logging and reporting, possible VPN connections (what encryption and protocols are supported), etc. Hope that helps. Roger R. Can someone let me know what company makes the most secure and strong
small office firewall. Sonicwall looks good for about $500 but I know there are others. It would be even better if the interface was easier to use. I presently have a Sonicwall in one office and it works great but I
am
not sure about how secure they are. I need strong securtity to
protect
a machine that is running IIS. IIS is running a service for my business. I need to secure the system from attack. Any suggestions????
