<...previous messages snipped> Yes, Microsoft's firewall, while better after SP2 (if you can get SP2 installed without causing more problems) is still junk and let's anything already open through. Also, I don't trust MS to put functionality in a firewall to for instance, block their own software. I also installed the Sygate Personal Firewall and LOVE it as the functionality is very extensive and it has allowed me to see things like Word trying to access the internet. If you use the Networking Wizard, you will find that this almost always re-enables Microsoft's firewall which is very annoying. Simply go into your Network Configuration and disable it: Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network Connections Right click on your connection "Local Area Connection" for instance and choose properties. When the dialog opens, click the "Advanced" tab. The first entry on the page is "Internet Connection Firewall". UNCHECK "Propect my computer and network..." Also advised, unless you are on a machine that you are purposely using as a gateway for a home/local network, is the make sure that the "Allow other network users to connect..." check box under "Internet Connection Sharing" is UNCHECKED as well. If your broadband suddenly stops working (either while you are surfing or when you boot up) check this setting. I have been frustrated a number of times, thinking something is wrong with my connection when infact the Microsoft Firewall has somehow gotten re-enabled. Personally, I would like to see the ability to uninstall this "firewall" completely because of these irritations. Hope you find this helpful, scott
